Course Description

Learn how a developer, municipality, and Energy Advisor adapted to building, permitting, and designing to the BC Energy Step Code in an engaging and interactive panel discussion in the Township of Langley.

Attend the Permitting and Inspecting a Step 5 Project workshop to hear from the Township of Langley, Streetside Developments and E3 ECO Group (energy consultants) on their experiences with the permitting and inspection processes for high performance townhome targeting Step 5, EL-4 of the Zero Carbon Step Code, and CHBA Net Zero Energy-Ready compliance.

This workshop is intended for Building Officials and other stakeholders linked to the successful deployment and implementation of the BC Energy Step Code.

Jonathan Meads

President of StreetSide Developments

Jonathan is Vice President of StreetSide Developments, the multi-family division of the Qualico Group. Jonathan has held the post for three years. StreetSide has been building townhomes, low and high-rise condos and mixed-use projects in the lower mainland for 10 years. Jonathan has over 25 years’ experience in real estate development and construction. Prior to becoming VP Jonathan was Senior Development Manager for 2+ years, after 11 years with Concert Properties. He has worked in both Canada and the UK, with experience in wood, concrete and steel residential and commercial construction. Jonathan has a Diploma in Building Studies, a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Building Surveying, he is a Chartered Surveyor and holds his LEED AP designation. Jonathan has been a member of various HAVAN, UDI and municipal committees for many years and remains engaged with BC Housing and other government bodies. He is passionate about building better buildings and continual learning.

Ajeen Surendran

Building Energy Specialist, Township of Langley

Ajeen Surendran is the Building Energy Specialist for the Township of Langley and has been with the Township for three years. His primary role is reviewing building permit applications for compliance with energy requirements in the Township jurisdiction. He also provides technical and educational support to the Green Buildings department and Permits, Licensing and Inspection Services department. Ajeen, a mechanical engineer by background, has over 13 years of experience in building energy modeling, energy auditing, HVAC design and installation. He has worked for projects in Canada, UAE, India, and North Africa with experience in residential, commercial, healthcare, and institutional buildings. Ajeen has a Master of Science degree in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University, UK and holds his CEM®, LEED AP (O+M) and Estidama PQP credentials.
