Course Description
Hamid Heidarali of Hamid Design Build gives a presentation on the fundamentals of building envelope, current energy efficiency trends, importance of holistic approach to energy efficiency, why exterior insulation strategy is a holistic approach to high performance outcomes, complete with practical solutions towards addressing key hurdles identified by the industry when designing/constructing exterior insulated buildings.
Syllabus: Importance of holistic approach to high performance building envelope in high performance building. Particularly the challenges with exterior insulation pertaining to:
1) Structural support and building envelope detaining windows/doors
2) Cladding attachment and the associated cost
3) Addressing thermal bridging at transitions

Hamid Heidarali is a Building Science specialist at HDB with a strong passion for high performance buildings that minimize their impact on the environment, while providing superior experience for occupants. He has been providing Building Science engineering on a wide range of projects in Canada over the past 17 years. Hamid taught building envelope courses to Masters students at BCIT from 2015 till 2020, and offers holistic building envelope workshops for the construction professionals on a regular basis.
